Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

History

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has long been an integral part of the Toronto waterfront. The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport was purpose-built on reclaimed property in Lake Ontario and was Toronto's first commercial airport. It has served Canada's largest business, industrial and cultural centre since 1939.
It is an ideal secondary airport to Pearson International Airport, and emulates other large urban centres like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, London and Paris, which provide choice and improved transportation efficiency with multiple airports.
There are currently two airport terminals - one is a historic landmark and is owned by the Toronto Port Authority (TPA); the other is owned by Porter FBO Limited.
Porter FBO Limited provides office space, fuel, maintenance, services and parking/storage for corporate and general aviation aircraft.
Other airport facilities include airport administration and NavCanada offices, a control tower, emergency services, three runways and a seaplane ramp.
More than 20 businesses are located at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, including maintenance providers, flight schools, catering, aircraft sales, financial services, security, charter-based air ambulance services, consulting, avionics installation and repair services, airborne sensing, sightseeing tours and air courier services.
Besides Porter there are more than 150 people working at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, generating direct and indirect economic benefits of about $100 million dollars annually for the downtown economy.
